Fitness bands and bracelets are becoming mainstream. In fact, this year’s CES proved that the future will heavily feature wearables, and fitness accessories are high up on the scale. Garmin is no stranger to such devices, and today they have gone one better with the announcement of the vivofit, a band that promises to learn your activity levels, and then set you personalised goals. The idea is to not become a gym bunny for a month and give up on it. Instead, keep your pace, and keep moving. Garmin hope that this would become your next best friend, at least as far as fitness levels go.

Vivofit features a lightweight and waterproof enclosure, as well as a comfy and curved design, meaning you can wear it anywhere, from the shower to the swimming pool, and the battery life is rated at a year, meaning you can pretty much stop worrying about it.

It also syncs directly with Garmin Connect, through various apps on various devices. This can be used to see a complete picture of your progress, from weight loss to your activities. This information can be made private, or be shared. It can also be used with ANT+ compatible devices, and with a heart monitor, providing in-depth information for serious athletes.

Best of all, since it shows time on its display, among other information, this can be your watch from now on!

Some of the main features of the device are:

  • Personalized daily goals
  • 24/7 wearable and waterproof soft band
  • One year battery life
  • Display showing: time, steps, distance, calories and how you are progressing towards your daily goal
  • Compatible with a heart rate monitor
  • Inactivity monitor
  •  Sleep tracking
  • Wireless sync with Garmin Connect for a complete overview of progress

It will be available from £99.99 from March 2014, and will be available in black, purple, teal, blue and slate, and with come with both a small and a large adjustable bracelet.
