What are these?

This interestingly shaped speaker is both good looking and useful as it allows you to stream music via Bluetooth devices and through a 3.5mm socket. You can control your music through it, adjust volume, and turn it on or off.

Look and feel

This speaker definitely shines over the others when it comes to look. Available in an interesting range of colours, and with an hourglass shape to support, it definitely looks good on your desk, or on your bedside table. The base is plastic, while the ‘speaker’ part surrounds the top, with a soft fabric finish. The bottom just has tiny feet to give it stability, and the top features the control buttons and an LED that gives you different outputs.

The back has a power input to charge this, as well as line input.

Fairly light, this can be carried around with you, though it isn’t slim enough to squeeze into a handbag.

Setup

As simple as it gets. The moment you turn this on, it is ready to pair. Scan it, pair it, and off you go.

Compatibility

Being Bluetooth 4.0 means it is compatible with almost every device on the market, and that includes the music control, such as play/pause, next/previous and volume controls.

If all else fails, the ‘Line In’ allows you to connect virtually anything with an audio output to this. They have even included a 3.5mm audio cable with this.

Ease of use

Once again, quite simple. The buttons do exactly as they are supposed to, and that is all there is to it. Turn on, press Play, and off you go!

Can it make phone calls/act as a speaker phone?

No.

Sound quality

The sound quality is fairly decent. The unit features two speakers on the front and a bass unit at the back, pumping out 12W of power. Now this may be less, and you may notice that this isn’t the loudest if used outdoors, but this isn’t sold or designed as such.

The sound from this is ideal for home use, while you lounge on the sofa, or on your bedside table. In fact, it looks quite good there.

While the loudness isn’t going to blow your mind, the sound is true, clear, and the bass packs in bit of a bite too.

Buying information

The DISCO 3 is available now in Candy and Clay from for £59.99 from Johnlewis.com andAmazon.co.uk.

Verdict

The DISCO 3 is a great all round performer, and comes at a very low price. A good device that delivers what it promises, and looks good while doing it.
