Review: Onkyo LS-T10 Soundbase

onkyo-soundbase

What is it?

The Onkyo LS-T10 Soundbase is the ultimate accessory to have for anybody who enjoys their surround sound, their music, and their movie experience. It takes the ordinary sound televisions provide these days and turns it into an experience that is worthy of the image quality. It also allows you to play music via other devices thanks to the auxiliary input, and it features pairing via Bluetooth, making this a truly universal speaker. It also includes a remote control for ease of use.

Look and Feel

The Onkyo LS-T10 will definitely not fit in your pocket, and it isn’t designed to do so. It has been designed to act as a base for your television, and the size is pretty perfect to place most televisions on it. In fact, once placed on top, the Onkyo Soundbase tends to merge into the background, and you hardly even notice it is there, till you turn it on, of course!

It features six speakers in front, and a powerful woofer system at the b0ttom. On top are some touch sensitive buttons to allow you to adjust different modes and input settings. The back features ports for inputs, such as optical and 3.5mm socket, power, and a USB port to plug in a flash drive with MP3 music.

Setup

Setup for this is as easy as it gets. Plug it in, turn it on, and off you go.

In fact, one of the best features I liked about this was that it turns itself on when you turn on your television. While this feature may not be available on every make and model, it works on the big ones such as LG, Philips, Toshiba, Sony, Samsung, etc.

The BlueTooth setup is simple as well.

The Sound!

The sound quality of this device is extremely good.

The Aurasphere surround sound technology makes sure that you get a uniform experience wherever you are in the room, and the sound totally surrounds you. It also tends to project the sound at all distances, so if you’re in a studio flat like me, and are in the kitchen doing the dishes, you can still hear what is on the television.

The speakers allow three different modes: news, music and movies.

The News mode is design for talking, conversations, and generally the kind of program where a lot of words are spoken. The sound is more directional in this mode, and if that is your cup of tea, this works well.

Music is, of course, designed to give you the best clarity and experience when it comes to sound. Everything is perfectly balance, calibrated, if you may, and each note is delivered as it should.

Movies mode, though, is my favourite. This is where this speaker really shines. The sound surrounds you, the bass kicks it up a notch, and if you dare, be ready to feel each and every thud and punch as the speaker will make sure the sound penetrates you! The bass speaker is down facing, and whether that is what makes the floor shake, or just the sheer power of it, but you can really feel those thuds.

Other features

If the above are not enough (tut tut!), this isn’t where the features end.

There is Bluetooth for those who may not have a taste for movies. There is USB capabilities to plug in a flash drive if that is how you carry your music.

If you like your Blue Rays and DVDs, this is already designed to work with Dolby, which, by the way, also works immensely well with games too!

Buying information

The Onkyo LS–T10 Soundbase retails for about £350.

Verdict

There are some things in life that you can only appreciate when you have them. This is definitely one of those. Go, and get it. And yeah, invite your friends for that movie, games or sports experience, and you will be the star of the show with this.
