Sat navs is probably the best thing that has happened to road trips in the last decade or two, and CoPilot is one of our favourite softwares, that lets you load it on to your smartphone, and you’re good to go!

However, it is common knowledge that distractions while driving are the biggest causes of accidents, and sadly sat navs have to take some of that share. CoPilot have taken the message on board, and have put in a new feature called Motion Lock in its new version, which also includes a refreshed user interface, iOS7 compatibility, and restyled app icons.

The driver can choose a minimum travel speed at which the map becomes locked, and the speeds can be set to 10,20,30 or 40 kph, or 5,10, 15,20 mph.

“Adjusting your GPS system while driving can be distracting, so we are introducing Motion Lock to reduce driver interaction while on the move” said David Quin, head of consumer applications at ALK Technologies. “Together with CoPilot’s clear map displays, accurate turn-by-turn voice guidance and fast automatic rerouting, Motion Lock helps drivers stay focused on the road while CoPilot directs them to their destination”

The update also includes:

  • Improved in-app search
  • Restyled Flat UI
  • Motorway/highway exit numbers are displayed on the map
  • New 3D and 2D map guidance styles
  • Pioneer NavGate HUD Connector (in app purchase)

The latest version, 9.5, is available as a free update immediately, and is available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 8 users.
