Motorola Announce the Moto G

Moto G Announcement

While the Nexus 5 may be the phone which comes with all of Google’s blessings, it is actually Motorola, owned by Google, that should really be hitting the headlines when it comes to Google’s phones. Ah, such is the way of the world. Anyway, Motorola have just announced the Moto G, and this feature filled handset comes at only £135!

Here is Motorola explaining what to expect from the phone:

Motorola seem to have struck a balance between the high end and the low end (cheap) phones, and seem to provide users with something in the middle, that not only gives you all the functionality, but at a price that even the cheaper phones don’t seem to offer.

Here are a few of the highlights of the phone:

A brilliant 4.5-inch HD display – the sharpest in its class – that goes edge-to-edge so you can enjoy movies, photos, video chats and more.

·         The newest Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400 quad-core processor for seamless multitasking and enjoying the web, videos and games, with all-day battery life.

·         Android 4.3 Jellybean, the most up to date Android of any phone in its class, with a guaranteed upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat at the beginning of 2014. No skins to clutter or slow the experience, and great performance with Google’s unbeatable mobile services such as Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Chrome and Hangouts.

·         Stylish design with a comfortable curved back and 19 customisation options, including interchangeable Motorola Shells, Flip Shells and Grip Shells in seven colours.

Moto G will be available in the UK and Ireland from £134.95 SIM free with 8GB of storage and from £159 SIM free for 16GB. It will be available through various carriers and retailers including Orange and T-Mobile, O2, Phones 4u, TechData and Tesco Mobile. Availability in the UK starts from today.  Check with local carriers and retailers for details on price and availability.

Personally we are big fans of phones that do not put any skins on top, and at least the one advantage of it being a Google (*cough*) phone is that it comes with stock Android, and the promise of updates (to 4.4).

Ability to personalize is quite good too, and it is surprisingly scarce when it comes to non-Nokia phones these days!

  1. I’m personally looking forward to this phone. As you rightly said, there seems to be a trend focusing on that middle area of the market, with relatively powerful phones at a reasonable price point.

Although I don’t see it appealing to powerhouse users (not that it’s meant to), it’ll definitely have it’s pull at the lower end of the market for those wanting an entry level smartphone.
