Thrown off by the words Laser Guided? We were a bit amused as well, but if intrigued, do read on!
What is it?
This is a beard trimmer like no other we have tried so far. A couple of heads allow you to set your beard between 0.4mm to 7mm in length, in tiny precise steps. However, the precision doesn’t stop there. It actually includes a laser built into the shaver to give you those precise straight cuts!
Wait, what? Laser?
It does sound crazy, but it isn’t. The laser projects a straight line where the blades hit your face, and with the cover heads off, you can give yourself that designer stubble you’ve always wanted. Want even finer detail? Turn the blade head around!
Look and feel
Now that we have given you the wow factor part of this device, let’s get to grips with what it looks and feels like. The trimmer feels solid in your hand and has an ergonomic non-slip back. The enclosure is water proof, so you can use it in the shower, and wash it afterwards. Front is a bit shiny, with a button to turn it on or off, a rotating adjustment wheel that locks in to give you different heights, and an LCD feedback which lets you see what height is set.
The top has two sets of blades, which can be turned around.
On top are a couple of heads, one to do your beard, and one with less covering around it to do your moustache.
On the back of the blades is a little button, which when pressed reveals the laser, which pops out. With the trimming heads on, the laser automatically recedes back into the trimmer.
So how good is it?
Two aspects to this. How good is it as a stubble/beard trimmer, and how good is it to do those sharp cuts.
Pretty good on both accounts actually.
The beard trimmer is straight forward, and with the precise length control, you can have as little or as much beard as you want. The blades are sharp, and when fully charged, you hardly notice it go through, giving you a smooth shaving experience.
Once you have given your beard and moustache the trim, you can give yourself those final touches by using the laser guided system. Once again, this worked pretty well, and even someone who is often seen scruffy was able to give myself some smooth and straight lines. Once again this is soft on the skin, and while I always advise carefulness near the lip area, it is pretty good and easy to handle.
I like it, but what else?
A minor detail, but one that I like, is the fact that it actually comes with a UK adaptor instead of the EU ones we normally end up with with such products.
A complete spec sheet is available directly from Philips’ website over here.
This is available at retailers such as Boots. The RRP is £99.99, but at Boots it is currently going for £79.99.
Simple, no frills, does what it says on the tin. This is how I like my products to be, and this ticks all those boxes. The laser guided precision is a great touch, and when it is that easy even scruffy men like me can go all neat and finely cut!Google+
