The top four advantages of the cloud

Cloud

While many of us have only just got used to saving, storing and backing up our documents, music and pictures on an external hard drive like good boys and girls, here comes the cloud to make our lives that little bit easier – and a lot more accessible!

But what does this mean for the average smartphone, laptop, home PC or tablet user?

Share files

You could share your latest work documents, your portfolio or your most recent presentation. Or you could share those hilarious pictures from that lads holiday or even the best snaps from your mums 50th birthday. How you use the cloud is up to you. As your files aren’t saved on your device, they can be accessed from anywhere and you’ll no longer have to email documents to yourself or carry a losable USB stick full of your most treasured memories.

Save money

Ah yes, everyone likes to save a penny or two – and thankfully the cloud understands that users want to pay for what they use, and not for what they don’t. It is more than likely that the average user will never need to purchase much more space to store their virtual wares – but you can be safe in the knowledge that you won’t get short-changed if you do.

So-long updates

How many times has a task that you envisaged would take you five minutes, eaten-up an hour of your day thanks to ‘software updates’? Thanks to the cloud, you’ll think of these days and laugh because this nifty tech ensures all users are working from the same version and updates are completed in the background to what you’re doing – automatically! There is no manual process to be undertaken and no need to go and stick the kettle on while your updates take care of themselves 1% at a time.  And that ‘reboot’ at the end – a thing of the past.

Here it is!

Until the option to “Ctrl + F” life becomes possible, the cloud is the next best thing. No longer will users have to download an album, then waste hours of their life syncing it to their internet-enabled mp3 player, uploading it to their 3G tablet or sending it to their Wi-Fi-ready laptop. With the cloud, all of your music, pictures and files are stored in one place so you can access it on any device you wish – it doesn’t even have to be your device as long as it can be used to browse the net! Obviously, cloud computing is ideal if you have your own business too – companies like TSG (in the UK) and CA Technologies (in the US) can get you started.
