Protect it Structurally

The first thing you can do to protect your phone is to protect it structurally. There are three basic types of smartphone cases available today. A soft or gel skin provides light-duty protection, mainly helping you avoid scratches. A hard, plastic shell case can protect the phone if you drop it from a short distance. Finally, there are cases available with multiple layers that make your phone virtually indestructible — including some versions that are waterproof too. These are a necessity for those who work outdoors or in an environment where their phone is subject to abuse. No matter if you have the current “hot” phone, or carry an older style, you can likely find a case that is both stylish and functional.

Protect Your Screen

With today’s touch screen phones, the screen is more important than ever. Therefore, it is vital you protect your screen. Also, if you have been checking out all the new cell phones, you will want your screen looking as new as possible to obtain more money for your trade in. Most screen protectors come in the form of a plastic sheet you press onto a clean screen. This may even prevent some cracks and breaks of the screen too. While applying these protectors is difficult, there are a number of videos posted online that can make it easier.

Protect Your Data

While nearly everyone uses a security program to protect data on their computer, it is becoming more and more important to protect the data on your phone as well. A June 2013 Consumer Reports article states that around 1.2 million smartphone users have dealt with identity theft, surprise charges or other difficulties that stem from a security breach of their phone. Luckily, both the cell phone providers and independent companies see this as a real problem.

Today, there are a large number services available that can protect your data. Some of these are simple — such as a built-in password protection. However, there are programs and apps available that can provide you with all sorts of protection. From anti-virus apps to those that guard your from connecting to a suspicious wireless signal, you protect your phone as easily as you can download the new version of “Angry Birds.”
