Sony Xperia Z Ultra – 6.4″ Display, Full HD, Ultra Slim, Waterproof, Powerful

0_Xperia_Z_UltraNot content with the success of Xperia Z, the phone, and Xperia Z tablet, Sony have gone and announced the latest addition to the pack, and addressed what they may have thought as a gap in the market: the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, a phablet!

  • Like the Xperia Z, it packs a full HD display, featuring Triluminos technology, powered by X-Reality
  • Like the Xperia Z, it is also ultra slim, at only 6.5mm thick, making it not only the thinnest phablet, but also the thinnest phone with a full HD screen.
  • It also packs in waterproof and dust resistant abilities up to IP55 and IP58.8
  • 8 MegaPixel camera, featuring Sony’s Exmor RS technology
  • Battery STAMINA mode for a good battery life.
  • Built for business – multiple accounts to separate business and personal life.

The highlights, however, are the following two:

  • a Qualcomm Snapdrapgon 800 processor with 2.2GHz Quad core  CPU
  • Ability to write and sketch on it using any pencil, or pen with a conductive tip. (Not too sure about that)

Our thoughts:

  • The powerful processor is a good touch.
  • Not too sure about the size, but then again I am not quite sold on the phablet idea myself.
  • Waterproof/dustproof is definitely the way to go from now on. Not sure why everyone hasn’t jumped on this yet.
  • Ability to write notes using anything like a pencil or conductive tip is a great idea, though I can see myself smudging the screen all the time. I guess we’ll just get specially made styluses for the job.
  • It also promises to have a robust security architecture, to seperate your personal life from your business one. Perhaps a bit like the Blackberry Enterprise Services we mentioned earlier.
  • It obviously features all the Sony entertainment packages we have come to know and love. Except that Sony has been a bit overshadowed in this aspect, and sadly people do not know them as much as they perhaps should.
