Review: Snugg Live Wire Flowing Light Charging Cable (Lightning Cable for iOS devices)

We are all extremely lucky to be living in an age where we have powerful, pocket-sized (and some not-so-pocket-sized) devices on hand with us throughout our daily lives. But we have all been there when our device of choice decides to run out of battery at the most inconvenient moment.  If you are anything like me, then you will keep chargers and USB cables everywhere, from your bedside, your office to you car so you can keep your baby juiced up throughout the day and avoid such an event from occurring.

Charger cables would not typically be worthy of a review, but we felt the Snugg Live Wire Flowing Light Charging cable deserved a little time basking in its own self-generated limelight.

My first impressions of this were that this is a somewhat chunky cable.  The portion that you insert into a USB socket is quite large, presumably to house all the light-generating wizardry. The other end has an Apple-flavoured lightning connector to connect up to any new iOS device that has a lightning socket (iPad 4, iPad mini, iPhone 5).  The build quality isn’t up to Apple’s exacting standards (see the wonky lightning connector), but it is certainly better than most generic accessories that can be found on the market.

On plugging it in, a soothing blue glow lights up through the middle of the cable, and if a device is charging the light appears to “flow” towards the device being charged. Unplug the device, and the “flow” stops/slows down. It is a simple yet pleasant effect.

Overall, the cable is a bit of fun, and at £19.99 it is only slightly more expensive than a standard boring cable direct from Apple. Well worth it to add a little light into your lives. However, unless you are used to sleeping with a nightlight, I wouldn’t swap it for your bedside phone charger…
