Review: Dexim ClickStik Bluetooth Remote + Camera Stand

By Amanda

What is it?

The Dexim ClickStik is a Bluetooth remote shutter control and tripod that works with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPod touches (the Bluetooth remote itself works with all iOS devices).

What do you get with it?

The box contains a lightweight tripod, a Bluetooth remote, a micro USB cable and a universal holder.

The tripod stands 3.75 inches tall and has a Velcro strap attached to it that wraps around the legs to keep them in place when not in use, but can also be be used to attach the tripod to a pole/post/branch – or basically anything that it can fit securely around; the universal holder attaches to the tripod with a screw and can be adjusted to the desired position using two dials.

The Bluetooth remote is about as simple as it can get, and measures a little less than two inches long. It has a single button at the top, a Micro-USB port for recharging at the opposite end and a wrist strap attached.

Is it easy to use?

The actual putting together of the tripod and universal holder is incredibly easy and very self-explanatory – although there are detailed directions included should they be needed.

To pair the Bluetooth remote to your iOS device, you just need to press the (only) button on the remote for about five seconds – until the LED starts flashing blue.

The remote requires Dexim’s free ClickStik app, which is simple to use and allows you to zoom, edit, add text and drawings and share photographs via Facebook, Twitter, SMS and email. Once the app is downloaded, you’re ready to go. The whole process, from putting the tripod and holder together, pairing the Bluetooth with the iPhone and downloading the app took about 15 minutes.

Verdict

Overall, the ClickStik impressed me. The universal holder felt a bit cheap, but it did hold the iPhone securely and was easy to adjust. The remote is simple to use and reliable; even from about thirty feet away it worked perfectly. The whole thing is very compact and easily transportable – think ‘jacket pocket,’ which could make for some great shots that you wouldn’t normally be able to take. If you are tired of not being in your group photos, or fed up of seeing your arm in them, this may be just the thing for you.

It might be basic, but it does what it promises.
