A Mountainous Challenge (Part I – The Plea and the Promise)

Dear readers,
I have two things that I would like to write about today –  first a plea, and then a promise. I would be exceptionally grateful if you could take 5 minutes of your day to read this post.

The Plea
In September I will be joining my Dad and my Uncle on an expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.  None of us are particularly athletic or fit, and certainly none of us have ever climbed a mountain before. So why on earth have we decided to do this now, I hear you ask! Well, the answer is to raise money for a charity that is particularly dear to our hearts.
My niece Millie was diagnosed at just 3 weeks old as suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. At the time none of my family really knew of CF or what it meant to have it. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease caused by a faulty gene. This gene controls the movement of salt and water in and out of your cells, so the lungs and digestive system become clogged with mucus, making it hard to breathe and digest food. CF is a life shortening disease for which there is no cure, but the symptoms are controllable through treatment and medication. If you would like to find out more about CF, then please visit the CF Trust website at www.cftrust.org.uk.
Living with CF has a huge impact on everyday life for Millie, and countless other CF sufferers just like her, and it would be difficult to imagine having to cope without the huge amounts of help, support and advice that the CF Trust offer.
My dad, my Uncle and I are hoping to raise a massive total of £12,000 for our efforts, and as we are funding the trip ourselves, every penny that we raise will go straight to the CF Trust. We have a huge task ahead of us, and would greatly appreciate any support that people can give us on the way by way of donations.
Please visit our Fundraising Pageswhere you can read each of our stories, and donate to any one of us individually, or to us all as a team if you prefer. In addition, if you would like to be kept up-to-date with our training and fundraising progress, please ‘Like’ our Facebook page.
The Promise
Now that I have got the plea out of the way, I will offer to give a little extra back to all you oxGadgets readers. Obviously being the gadget-lover that I am, I am keen to try out and test a good selection of tech both as part of my training, and also on the expedition itself. I plan on documenting, testing, and reviewing all the gadgets that I can and posting updates on here. I hope that you fellow gadget-lovers will appreciate this little extra token of gratitude that I can offer you as a thank you for supporting the cause.
If any of you have any recommendations of kit/tech that you think I should have, or perhaps would like me to try to test out something that you are considering buying, then please let me know and I will do my upmost to do this for you. Feel free to send me your recommendations/suggestions to my Twitter account, @JonnyLerwill, or by email.
Finally, to finish off, I would like to thank all of you who have taken time to read this through to the end, and an even bigger thank you to anyone who is kind enough to support us.

You can also donate £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to us by text. To do this, send “KILJ50 [amount]” to 70070. For example, to donate £5, send the following text to 70070:
KILJ50 £5
Thank you,
