Outlook.com out of Beta, into the frying pan?

By Sami Mughal

Mention a hotmail.com email address and most people will look at you in a funny kind of way. They will judge you and they will call you ancient. They will proudly tell you how their mail servers automatically mark anything coming from that domain as spam. Well, Microsoft are hoping that a rebranding exercise will fix all that and they have chosen to graduate the whole Hotmail experience to a new, even though a well recognized name, Outlook.

Now, Outlook was released a few months back, and we gave it a good test. We did not like it, and our test Hotmail account was downgraded back to Hotmail. They have now come out of Beta, and they promise everything works hunky dory on it! If you still use Hotmail, you can probably see signs all over which encourage you to shift, but if you can’t, it is under the settings section.

So, will you give it a go? It promises a new look, but more than that, it gives you the same feel as rest of the Windows 8 Metro UI. Probably not too bad if you are already on the Windows 8 program, but it may take a little time to get used to.
